A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced Udogwu Johnson to 5 years imprisonment over alleged involvement in the illegal Importation of 3300-gram cocaine.
He was sentenced on Thursday by Justice Nicholas Oweibo who found Johnson guilty of the charge brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
In his judgment, Justice Oweibo’s handed down a five years jail term to Johnson.
Background
While reviewing the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Abu Ibrahim said Johnson was first arraigned on August 12, 2021, but pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
He was granted bail but jumped bail and the court on June 6 revoked the bail it granted him.
He further informed the court that the drug peddler was re-arrested in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, where he was also facing trial on drug-related offences.
Upon arraignment, he proposed to change his plea while the amended charge marked FHC/L/128c/21 was read to him.
Subsequently, he pleaded guilty to the amended charges.
In the amended charges, He was charged for the illegal importation of 300 grams of cocaine, at the D-Arrival Hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on or around December 25, 2020.
According to NDLEA, the act contravened Section 11 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Ibrahim prayed the court to deliver judgment in accordance with the section of the law breached by the defendant.
In his judgment, Justice Oweibo sentenced Johnson to five years imprisonment.
