Man Faces Charges for Impersonating Soldier

Dolapo Wemimo is facing charges of impersonating a soldier at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

He was arraigned on Thursday before magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun.

Upon arraignment, 30-year- old Wemimo entered a not guilty plea to a single count of impersonation.

Background

Inspector Rita Momoh informed the court that on August 11, 2023, the defendant was apprehended in berger area of Lagos state.

According to Momoh, the defendant is accused of impersonating a soldier through the possession and wearing of an Army uniform.

She mentioned that the committed offense falls under Section 380 (1) of the 2015 Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, and is subject to punishment.

The charge reads “That you, Dolapo Wemimo, on August 11, 2023, at Berger, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District did, commit felony to wit: impersonation and unlawful possession of Army uniform and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

Court’s Decision 

In her ruling, Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000.

she also directed him to produce a responsible surety in the like sum.

Magistrate Olatunbosun adjourned the case for mention to November 13, 2023
