The Kaduna State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has declared the governorship election held in the state inconclusive.
The tribunal on Thursday ordered for a supplementary election to be held within 90 days.
Recall Isah Mohammed Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party had approached the tribunal challenging the outcome of the election that produced Governor Uba Sani.
Background
Following the March 18 governorship election in Kaduna state, the INEC declared Mr Sani as the winner.
Mr Sani had polled a total of 730,001 votes while Mr Ashiru polled 719, 196 votes.
Not satisfied with the declaration by INEC, Mr Ashiru and his party filed a petition challenging the Victory of Sani.
They alleged that the election that produced Sani was marred with irregularities and manipulations of results.
During the hearing, Mr Ashiru called 24 witnesses and tendered various documents to support his argument.
Court’s decision
In its judgement, The tribunal held that the 2023 governorship election held in the state on March 18, 2023, was inconclusive.
Consequently, the tribunal directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to within 90 days conduct a supplementary election in the state.
The three-man panel led by Justice Victor Oviawe delivered a split decision with a ratio of 2:1.
