Adetokunbo Oyetola, counsel to convicted police officer has claimed to have received a divine instruction to defend the convict.
Oyetola spoke about the divine instruction while speaking with journalists on Monday after his client, Drambi Vandi was sentenced to death by hanging.
He noted that he will request the judgment file and subsequently determine his next step. he emphasized that his client has the right to appeal the judgment.
Background
The Jurist had earlier reported that a police officer, Drambi Vandi from the Ajiwe police division in the Ajah area of Lagos state was sentenced to death by hanging by a high court in the state.
The sentence reads “The court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead,” judge Ibironke Harrison said.
The police officer was convicted of the murder of one Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem
He shot the lawyer who was an expectant mother till death along Ajah roundabout in Lagos on Christmas Day.
The officer was also suspended two days after the incident.
After follow-up and investigations into the matter, the state high court in Lagos found Mr Vandi guilty of murder.
He was consequently sentenced to death by hanging on Monday, 9 October 2023.
