The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.
Obiano was arraigned before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, January 24.
Upon arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to the 9 count charges proffered against him by the Federal government of Nigeria
While Sylvanus Tahir (SAN) is the counsel for the prosecution, Onyechi Ikpeazu( SAN) is the counsel for the defendant
In count one, Obiano was accused of making cash transaction through a non financial institution of N 223, 371 million from fidelity bank 5540007709 which was converted to $600,000 and collected in cash.
Court adopts EFCC’s administrative bail
Justice Ekwo adopted the terms of the administrative bail granted to Obiano by the EFCC.
The Judge ordered the particulars of the bail conditions to be transferred to the court within 7 days.
He added that the defendant should not travel outside the jurisdiction of court without permission.
The court also directed the prosecution to assemble its witnesses within 4 days.
He then adjourned the case to 4,5,6 and 7 of March for trial.
