Federal High Court Orders Release of 313 Suspected Terrorists Due to Lack of Evidence

The Borno division of the Federal High Court has ordered the release of 313 suspected terrorists detained by the military due to insufficient evidence to prosecute them.

This was disclosed by the Defence Headquarters on Thursday by Major General Buba Edward, the Director of Defence Media Operations.

He stated that the suspects would be handed over to the Borno State Government for further action.

Background

The release order comes amidst ongoing military operations against terrorism across the country.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai reported significant success in neutralizing insurgents in Borno and Adamawa states, with 52 terrorists killed and 137 arrested.

The operations also led to the rescue of 78 kidnapped hostages and the recovery of various weapons and ammunition.

Court decision


The Court ordered the release of the 313 terrorism suspects due to lack of evidence following the completion of investigations and related legal procedures.

The cases were prosecuted by the Department of Prosecution and the Federal Ministry of Justice, highlighting the challenges in securing convictions in terrorism-related cases.
