A famous Kano tiktok skit maker, Murja Kunya, has been remanded in a correctional center in the state by a shariah court sitting in Kano.
The 24-year-old skit maker was remanded over alleged defamation and is charged with three counts of defamation of character, injurious falsehood, criminal intimidation, alleged breach of the public peace, and indecent act.
Mr. Lamido Sorondinki, the Prosecution Counsel, stated that the respondent committed the offense on January 29 via her WhatsApp Status, as she defamed the personality of a certain Aisha Najamu and Ashiru Mai-Wushirya, and disseminated it to the public.
“The defendants mimed a video song that violates the morals, law, and custom of the people of the state. “The video was released by Ado Gwanja and Kawu Dan Sarki (now at large) via Tiktok and Instagram,” Sorondinki said.

The defendant denied committing the offense, and Mr. Yasir Umar-Musa, the defense counsel, made a bail application under sections 35 and 36 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 168 and 172 of Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2019 Kano, which the prosecution counsel countered. Malam Abdullahi Halliru, the Presiding Judge, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a Correctional Center and adjourned the case till Feb.16 for further hearing.
