Teacher bags life imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl

Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya of Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced Chukwu Ndubuisi, a 41-year-old teacher, to life imprisonment for raping a six-year-old.

The convict, Chukwu Ndubuisi, was a part-time teacher at Mind Builders Nursery and Primary School, Omole Phase 11, Ikeja, when he raped the six-year-old female child within the school surrounding.

He was firstly arraigned before the Ogudu Magistrate court Lagos on October 4, 2016, for rape but pleaded not guilty

On Monday, he was sentenced to life imprisonment after justice Sedoten confirmed evidence brought against him for forceful penetration.

In June 2016, Justice Olufunke Sule-Amzat granted Ndubusi bail in the sum of N100,000 with two qualified sureties who are relatives of the defendant and are gainfully employed.

After the legal advice came from the Directorate of public prosecution, the case was assigned to Justice Ogunsanya.

Justice Ogunsanya, while delivering the judgement, referenced several authorities and declared that the complainant provided genuine evidence beyond doubt.

The complainant brought 13 witnesses to court, while the defendant brought nine witnesses.

The judge said,” The fact, circumstances, and quality of evidence against the defendant was compelling. The first time the victim told her mother of her experience was when she (the mother) discussed the case of a seven-year-old girl who was defiled and killed, which went viral.

“The account of the victim and that of her mother was uncontroverted, corroborated each other, and they gave a good account of the sexual assault.”

The judge noted that the victim was first defiled in the female toilet and the art room the second time, and the defendant had sent for the victim many times through her friends.

She said It was evident to the court that the defendant had easy access to the victim.

The court dismissed the counterclaim of the defence witnesses, which was on the ground that there was no CCTV record of the incident.

The test result from Mirabel Centre provided that the victim experienced forceful penetration while she had torn hymen and reddish vulva.

Justice Ogubsanya, therefore convicted the defendant as charged. She declared that Ndubuisi was guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

She said, “The defendant (Ndubuisi) is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment for the defilement of a child.”
