US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey ordered soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo to be reimbursed $300,000 for legal fees he spent defending himself in an alleged rape case.

Kathryn Mayorga had alleged that the Portuguese soccer star raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009.

He had argued that the intercourse was a consensual sexual encounter.

In June, the judge dismissed the case with prejudice after finding that the plaintiff’s lawyer engaged in severe misconduct that might lead to him not having a fair trial.

The judge consequently ordered the lawyer to pay the sum of $334,637.50 to Ronaldo.

According to Judge Jennifer Dorsey, the lawyer, Leslie Stovall owed the money after the attorney was “judged to have harmed the footballer through “bad-faith lawyering.”

Though the petitioner had sought more compensation than the sum awarded, the judge ruled that Ronaldo and his lawyers had dragged the case longer than necessary.
