Scavenger docked for allegedly stealing Oyo State Govt cables

On Monday, a 46-year-old scavenger, Samson Kadiri, was docked in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan for allegedly stealing electric wires belonging to the Oyo State Government.

The police charged Kadiri with two counts of wilful damage and theft.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that Samson, on Feb. 13, at about 7 a.m., the scavenger allegedly damaged Oyo State Government property.

Adegbite said that the defendant allegedly cut and stole cable wires used in the electrification of Awotan refuse dump site at Apete, Ibadan, worth N100, 000.

He said the offence contravened to section 383 and was punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs P. O. Adetuyibi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 17 for hearing. If Samson is found guilty, he is liable to three or seven years’ imprisonment.
