EFCC : Zaura in court for defrauding Kuwaiti $1,320,00

Popularly known APC chieftain and Kano senatorial candidate, A.A Zaura has been arraigned at the federal High court in Kano by the Economic and financial Crimes Commission,(EFCC).

Zaura was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday before justice Mohammed Nasir Yunusa, on four counts bordering on obtaining by false pretence. 

He was charged with allegedly defrauding a Kuwaiti of the sum of $1,320,00 on the ground that he builds properties in Dubai, Kuwait and other Arab countries.

Background 

According to Sahara reporters, he had been absent in court after being summoned four times on this case. 

Zaura, who is the Kano senatorial candidate for APC is being re-arraigned by the Kano zonal command of the EFCC in accordance with the ruling of the court of Appeal which ordered a retrial after dismissing his acquittal by Justice A. L. Allagoa of the federal High Court. 

Earlier his case had suffered postponement due to the fact that the defendant couldn’t show up at the court. 

On January 30, Zaura was again absent in court, making it one more  time in which he did not show up in court along with the trial judge. 

He was reportedly picked up on the same date by the operative of the EFCC however, the prosecution counsel, A. T. Habib told the court that she had received a letter from the defence counsel, I. G. Waru, telling her that the defendant had a matter at the Supreme Court and would not be able to make it to court. 

The case was later adjourned till February 6, by justice M. N. Yunusa based on the plea of the counsel who was present in court.
