State governors have threatened to file a contempt suit against the Attorney General of the federation, Abubakar Malami, (SAN), and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, for failing to obey the court order on the Naira policy.

The state governors had through their lawyers asked the AGF and Emefiele to obey the order or face a contempt suit.

Last week, THE JURIST reported that the Supreme Court declared the old N1000, N500, and N200 notes legal tender to circulate alongside the new notes until December 31, 2023.

Reports also revealed that the federal government and the CBN had been served the Certified True Copy of the Judgement and enrollment order.

Despite the order, the AGF and the CBN have not responded and addressed the citizenry on their stance, which has birthed fear and indecision among the public. Many businesses and individuals are still rejecting the old notes in the country.
