Trump, the first U.S former president to face criminal charges

Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States of America has been arraigned at a New York Criminal Court in Manhattan.

He was arraigned yesterday on 34 count felony charges bordering on falsifying business records among others.

Trump, who is the front-runner for the 2024 Republican is the first former president to be arraigned on criminal charges.

A New York grand jury had last week voted to indict Trump on criminal charges of which he appeared before Justice Juan Merchan yesterday.

In the charge, Alvin alleged that Trump paid the sum of $130,000 to silence Stormy Daniels, a porn star during the election.

The arraignment: Upon arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to the 34-count felony charges against him.

The charges include a $130,000 payment to Daniels, a $30,000 payoff to a doorman trying to sell information about a child that Trump allegedly fathered out of wedlock, and $150,000 to Karen McDougal.

The next court hearing has been slated for December 4, 2023.

Speaking at a press conference after the arraignment, Alvin said It’s not just about one payment, ‘It is 34 business records – 34 false statements and business records. They were concealing criminal conduct.’

Trump response: reacting to his arraignment, Trump said he is a victim of political persecution.

He posted on his social media hours before the commencement of his court hearing, which he labeled “Kangaroo Court”.

“THE RADICAL LEFT DEMOCRATS HAVE CRIMINALIZED THE JUSTICE SYSTEM,” Trump posted.

Biography

Trump is an American politician and businessman who was the president of the US from January 20, 2017, to January 20, 2021 and suffered impeachment twice during his tenure by the House of Representatives. He was acquitted of all charges by the Senate on both occassion.

His administration was said to be characterized by maladministration and upon resumption to office, Trump was said to have signed 6 executive orders while by the end of his administration in 2021, he had signed a total number of 220 executive orders.

As a Republican, Trump faces a lot of criticism, from the opposition party, the Democrats, right from his days in office and even after he left the presidency.

Currently, he is still participating in American politics and is the leading presidential candidate for the Republicans in the upcoming 2024 elections.
