On Wednesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced that it secured the final forfeiture of 324 properties it had recovered from the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees.
Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the order of final forfeiture after the EFCC moved a motion for final forfeiture.
The EFCC informed the judge that they suspected the properties to be proceeds of unlawful activities of the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees.
Background
The EFCC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, stated that the 324 properties comprised various houses located in different parts of Kano.
He said “168 homes are situated at Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud Adam, Bandirawo City, Kano; 122 houses at Sheikh Nasiru Kabara (Amana City), Kano and 38 houses at Sheikh Khalifa Ishaq Rabiu City, Kano.
“The 168 houses at Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud Adam Bandirawo City consisted of various units, including 55 units of two-bedroom semi-detached houses, 51 units of three-bedroom houses, seven units of three-bedroom converted, and others.
“The 122 houses at Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, Kano, comprised 14 units of two-bedroom semi-detached houses, 62 units of two-bedroom semi-detached houses, four units of three-bedroom converted, and other types. The 38 houses at Sheikh Khalifa Ishaq Rabiu City, Kano, included 19 units of a three-bedroom bungalow, six units of a four-bedroom duplex, and others.
Uwujaren made it known that the EFCC had established that the properties were reasonably suspected to be the proceeds of unlawful activities of the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees.
It is unclear what the commission intends to do with the properties after obtaining their final forfeiture.
