A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Kabusa, Abuja has sentenced Kelechi Maxwell, to 16 months imprisonment for stealing N1.4 million worth furniture.
He was sentenced on Wednesday by the presiding judge, Abubakar Sadiq after pleading guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Maxwell was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass and theft.
He prayed the court for liniency after pleading guilty to the charges.
Background
On February 20, the complainants, James Kalu and Solomon Okoro reported the matter at the Apo Police Station.
According to the prosecution counsel, Nwafoaku Stanley, the complainants in their report said the convict entered their furniture shop, located at Garki Road, Apo, and stole the said items on February 19.
Items stolen by the convict include:
eight wardrobes, four center tables, eight shoe racks, six television stands, ten stools.
They revealed that the item stolen amounted to N1.4 million.
Subsequently, The convict was apprehended and handed over to the police for proper investigation.
The prosecution said in the cause of the police investigation, eight wardrobes, two stools, one television stand and one center table were recovered from the convict.
He noted that the offences contravene sections 97, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Court’s decision
In his judgment, judge Abubakar Sadiq delivered a summary sentence.
The judge sentenced him to 16 months imprisonment with an option of N50, 000 fine.
The judge also warned him to abstain from crime going forward.
