Court orders remand of man impersonating KEDC staff

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of one Salisu Abubakar, in a correctional Centre for allegedly impersonating a staff of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC).

The court gave the order on Thursday after Salisu was arraigned before the court.

He is being prosecuted on one count charge bordering on impersonation.

Background 

The defendant was caught and handed over to the police on May 20 while he was defrauding people. 

He was caught by a KEDC staff at Ali Akilu Road Kaduna while he was parading himself as a staff member.

Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

Upon arraingment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

subsequently, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant till the charge is determined.

He also asked the judge for a trial date in order to commence hearing on the case.

However, Barau Hassan, the defendant’s lawyer opposed the request for the remand of his client. 

He prayed the court to grant the defendant bail.

Court’s Decison

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, ordered the remand of Salisu Abubakar pending hearing of his bail application.

The matter was adjourned until June 18 for hearing
