N40M fine slammed by court on ex-presidential candidate

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has slammed a N40 million fine on a former Presidential candidate, Ambrose Albert Owuru.

The appellate court on Thursday slammed chief Ambrose for filing frivolous suit to stop the inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chief Ambrose had filed an application seeking to stop the inauguration of on May 29.

However, the court in it’s ruling ordered him to pay N10 million each to the four defendants in the suit.

Defendants include: President Muhammadu Buhari, Attorney General of the Federation AGF, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and Bola Tinubu.

Court’s decision

A three man panel of justices held that chief Ambrose embarked on gross abuse of court process by filing frivolous, vexatious and irritating suit to provoke the respondents.

The panel held that that there was no need to file the case as same grievance has been heard at the supreme court in 2019.
