The Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has sentenced famous Hilton hotel owner, Dr Ramon Adedoyin to death by hanging.
Adedoyin was sentenced on Tuesday after the court found him guilty of murder.
He was found culpable in the murder of a post graduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife by name, Timothy Adegoke.
The court held that Adedoyin’s refusal to enter the witness box had suggested and proved his involvement in the death of the OAU student.
She noted that his refusal implies that he consents to the murder charge against him.
Background
In 2021, Adegoke was killed in the hotel owned by Dr Adedoyin which threw out controversy in the state and the country.
Adegoke was lodged in Hilton hotel on November 5, 2021, and was later found dead in a bush the next day with efforts made to hide his body.
Adedoyin alongside six of his staff were arraigned on 18 counts bordering on murder conspiracy, indecent interference with the corpse, and others.
They are; Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, Adebayo Kunle, Adedeji Adesola, and Magdalene Chiefuna,
Court hearing
During the court trial, counsel to Adedoyin, , Mr Yusuf Alli, SAN, argued that his client had no hand in the killing as all evidence preferred against him had no link with him.
The court had also received that Adedoyin was not in town during the incident, as he claimed to be in Abuja during the period.
The defence counsel also stressed that all charges against the CEO were based on suspicion and not fact.
The prosecution counsel, Femi Falana in his final written address on March 29, 2023, further argued on the death of Adegoke pointing to the evidence that the deceased body was also found in the bush, as there had been an attempt to hide it.

Court’s decision
Delivering judgement on Tuesday, Justice Oyebola Ojo declared that Adedoyin was guilty of the charge preferred against him.
After finding him guilty, the judge sentenced him to death by hanging
