Kingsley Bassey, 23years, has appeared before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka at the Yaba Magistrate court on alleged killing his younger brother.
The Magistrate ordered his remand at the Kirikiri Custodial Centre following allegations that he killed his younger brother while under the influence of drugs.
Background
Bassey was apprehended by the police and brought before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court to face a single count of murder.
During the court proceeding, the prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, presented details of the alleged crime which occurred at No. 3, Poultry Road, Meiran, Lagos State.
He informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 29, 2023, at approximately 8:30 am.
According to Nurudeen, the offence committed by the defendant is in violation of Section 222 and is punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The charge read, “That you, Kingsley Bassey, on May 29, 2023, around 8.30 am at No. 3, Poultry Road, Meiran, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one six-year-old (name withheld) by hitting his head on the ground and thereby, committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, the defendant’s plea was not taken during the court proceeding.
Nurudeen requested the court to remand the defendant in custody while awaiting legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Court`s decision
Magistrate Nwaka in his ruling ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Kirikiri Custodial Centre.
In addition, he adjourned the case to August 21, 2023, marking the next scheduled date for the continuation of the proceedings.
