The Gombe State Election Tribunal has nullified the electoral victory of Hon. Abubakar Leggerowo, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Hon. Abubakar Leggerowo, who secured his election under the APC banner, had his victory challenged by Bashir Abdullahi of the PDP.

Central to the Tribunal’s decision was the examination of INEC’s cancellation of votes in specific polling units within the constituency.

This action was brought to light by the petitioner, who alleged it had provided an unfair advantage during the election.

Under the chairmanship of Justice Michael Ugar, the Tribunal ruled that INEC’s cancellation of results from units 001, 024, and 014 in Kumo East, Akko Local Government Area, was erroneous.

Consequently, the Tribunal issued a clear directive for INEC to conduct a rerun election within the next 30 days.

This rerun will determine the actual winner of the legislative seat.

Following the Gombe Tribunal’s verdict, Speaker Leggerowo expressed his dissatisfaction and promptly announced his intention to appeal the decision at the Appellate Court.

This judgement marks the next chapter in this electoral dispute as the state awaits the rerun election.
