Court remands siblings for allegedly killing uncle

Two siblings , Musa Idris and Aliyu Idris, have been brought before a Kwara State Magistrates’ Court.

Musa and Aliyu, were on Tuesday arraigned on charges of alleged culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy.

Their victim, Mohammed Abubakar, was their uncle a 54-year-old man residing in Kinikini village, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Background

The prosecution argued that the act of the siblings contravened Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Laws of Nigeria.

According to the Police First Information Report, the charges stem from a tragic incident.

The report details that the two suspects plotted to attack their father after a misunderstanding.

Their uncle, Abubakar, stepped in to mediate in the dispute.

While their father took his cattle for grazing in the bush, the two brothers allegedly launched a brutal machete attack on their uncle, ultimately leading to his death.

The report revealed that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, stating that they were dissatisfied with their uncle for preventing them from attacking their father.

This tragic event has left their community in shock.

During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, urged the court to remand the accused siblings in custody.

Court’s Decision

Magistrate A. A Issa in his ruling, ordered the remand of the suspects in the Federal Custodial Center in Ilorin.

The case has been adjourned until November 1, 2023, for further hearing as investigations continues.
