Mechanic bags jail term over false alarm

A 27-year-old mechanic, has sentences six-month prison sentence from the Lugbe Grade I Area Court.

Shedrack Zamdai on Wednesday was sentenced for raising false alarm regarding the disappearance of his genitals.

Background

The defendant had accused individuals from Kurufuma village, specifically Rabiu Idris, Badamasi Hamisu, and Usman Abdullahi, of “stealing” his genitals, which prompted his formal complaint at the Asokoro Police Station.

A police investigation followed, including a medical assessment at Garki 2 Hospital to evaluate Mr. Zamdai’s physical condition.

Medical assessments confirmed that he was in good health. Consequently, the court found Zamdai guilty of offenses related to making false accusations.

The prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwaforaku presented the case, emphasizing how Zamdai’s actions could have incited public unrest.

The Mechanic. pleaded guilty to charges of defamation of character, incitement of disturbance, and providing false information.

The conviction was made under sections 391 (defamation of character), 114 (incitement of disturbance), and 140 (providing false information) of the Penal Code.

Court’s Decision

Justice Aliyu Kagarko in delivering his judgment sentenced Zamdai to six-month in prison.

Zamdai is to spend six months in prison or pay a N25,000 fine.
