The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has on Tuesday sentenced doctor Olufemi Olaleye to life imprisonment for rape.
The presiding judge, Rahman Oshodi convicted Olufemi on a two-count charge of defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration.
The judge handed down life imprisonment for count one and the same for count two of which the sentencing will run concurrently.
Doctor Olufemi is the medical director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation.
Background
Doctor Olufemi is being accused of defiling his wife’s niece who is 15 year at No 17, Layi Ogunbambi Close, Maryland, Lagos State.
He was arraigned on November 30, 2022 on two counts bordering on defilement and sexual assault by penetration.
An offence which contravenes Sections 137 and 261, of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.
Upon arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to the charges against and was granted bail in the sum of 50 Million.
As part of his bail condition, he is to provide two sureties in like sum who must have landed property in Lagos State.
The sureties were also directed to provide three years evidence of tax payment to the state government.
Court’s decision
The judge found the defendant guilty in count one and two of the charges against him.
consequently, the judge sentenced him to life imprisonment on both counts.
“I, therefore, feel satisfied that the prosecutor has established that (a) the prosecutory was a child by section 261 of the Child Rights Law of Lagos state 2015, the defendant had sexual intercourse with her by putting his penis in her vagina, the defendant also forced his penis into her mouth and ejaculated.
“I must conclude that the prosecution has established counts one and two against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt. I, therefore, find the defendant guilty as charged.
“Femi Olaleye, I have convicted you of defilement and sexual assault by penetration. This charge has a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. Accordingly, I sentenced you to life imprisonment on count one and two. On each count, the sentencing will run concurrently,” The judge ruled.
