The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially endorsed the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for imminent bye-elections, sparked by the resignation or court sacking of Members of the National and State Houses of Assembly.
These significant vacancies, declared by distinguished Presiding Officers including the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, have set the stage for a political spectacle spanning nine states.
The affected areas include two Senatorial Districts, namely Ebonyi South and Yobe East, alongside four Federal Constituencies in Ondo, Taraba, Lagos, and Kebbi States.
Additionally, three State Constituencies in Borno, Kaduna, and Benue States are part of this expansive electoral landscape.
Simultaneously, INEC is gearing up for re-run elections mandated by various Election Petition Appeal Tribunals following the 2023 General Election.
A total of 35 Constituencies are impacted, with some requiring votes from entire constituencies and others limited to specific Polling Units.
The grand spectacle is set to unfold on Saturday, February 3, 2024, as both categories of elections are scheduled to take place simultaneously across all affected constituencies.
The INEC Timetable, accompanied by detailed delimitation data, has been made readily available on the commission’s website and social media platforms.
The comprehensive resource serves as a guide for political parties and candidates and ensures transparency for public information.
The commission strongly emphasizes the importance of strict adherence to the specified timelines by political parties and candidates.
