Football Legend Dani Alves Sentenced to Prison for Sexual Assault

A Spanish court rendered a verdict on Thursday, finding former Barcelona and Brazil footballer Dani Alves guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona.

This morning, the Barcelona court, where he underwent trial earlier this month, declared him guilty.

As a result, the 40-year-old father-of-two is confronting his initial night in prison as a convicted sex offender.

He had been detained on remand at Brians 2 Prison near the Catalan capital since his arrest in January last year. Alves vehemently asserted his innocence on February 7 during the final day of his three-day trial at Barcelona’s Audiencia Provincial court.
