On Monday, the Ikeja Special Offences Court remanded the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He was remanded after pleading not guilty to alleged abuse of office and allocation of $4.5bn, and N2.8bn.
Emefiele was earlier arraigned alongside his co-defendant, Henry Isioma Omole, on fresh 26 counts before Justice Rahman Oshodi, on charge marked ID/23787c/2024 and dated April 3, 2024.
Despite the plea from the defendant’s lawyer, A. Labo-Lawal, for bail in self-recognizance and continuation of earlier granted bail by the Abuja court, the court remanded Emefiele
Court’s decision
After considering the arguments from both counsels, Justice Oshodi remanded Emefiele to EFCC custody and the second defendant to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned till April 11 for ruling on bail and the start of the trial.
