NJC proposes appointment of 11 Supreme Court justices

The National Judicial Council has proposed the appointment of 11 justices to the Supreme Court bench.

Soji Oye, the NJC’s Director of Information, announced this on Wednesday in a statement.

He said the swearing-in of the recommended candidates would occur after approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and confirmation by the Senate.

He said Heads of court recommended, will also be sworn in upon approval by their state governors and subsequent confirmation by their state Houses of Assembly.

What Mr Soji said

Parts of the statement reads “The NJC, at its 104th meeting on Wednesday, December 6 considered the list of candidates presented by its Interview Committee and at the end of deliberations, recommended the under-listed names of successful candidates as heads of courts and other judicial officers for the Federal and State Courts in Nigeria.”

The Eleven justices include;

  • Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, OFR
  • Hon. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa
  • Hon. Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme
  • Hon. Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani
  • Hon. Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein
  • Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya
  • Hon. Justice Stephen Jonah Adah
  • Hon. Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru
  • Hon. Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur
  • Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar
  • Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris
